When you are moving, there are a lot of things to consider and plan.

Not only should you plan your packing strategy, but you should also be aware of what you shouldn’t pack.  There are certain items that can’t (or at least shouldn’t) be moved by a mover.

  • Flammable Items- Gasoline, aerosol cans, paints, and alcohol all go into this category.  Be sure to properly dispose of these items before you move. This also includes emptying out the tanks of all gas powered machines you want the mover to transport, such as the lawn mower.
  • Valuables- It’s best to move jewelry, firearms, and legal documents yourself.  You will feel better if you know where those expensive items. This also includes sentimental items.
  • Perishable Food- Be sure to go through your fridge and pantry and clean out items you won’t use before you move.  Your mover won’t be too keen on moving moldy lettuce and cheese.

Before you start packing, make sure you don’t include any of these items by accident.  It is a good idea to get a list from your mover so you know exactly what you can and can’t load onto the moving van.
